If you've never done it before, you may want to think about taking the time to do some research on the most common mistakes people make when writing a resume.Most people make the mistake of not including relevant work experience, which will simply disqualify them as a potential candidate for the job. A resume doesn't have to be extensive and include every job you've ever held. A resume can also include education-related experience, volunteer work, the length of your current and previous military service, and more. The only thing you must do is make sure that you don't include the same job title you've been working on too many times.Many people also get overwhelmed by writing a masterpiece resume and end up including no personal references, no professional affiliations , and no things they'd like to do with their lives after the interview. This usually results in employers thinking you're very stiff and making a negative impression. This is often not the case, and you should start listing your skills and interests in order of importance, and not necessarily by chronological order. The interviewer wants to know that you can honestly do the job they're hiring you for, and don't exaggerate that aspect.The same goes for your references. In fact, you should make sure they're not going to get offended or insulted by your resume. It's perfectly fine to have a few to choose from, but if they don't want to be interviewed, they don't have to be. Likewise, if you work with any specific businesses or organizations, make sure you list those as well. Any contact information like phone numbers, ad dresses, social security numbers, or email addresses should be new, and you should add them to your resume along with your skills and experiences. If you're going to mention your college GPA, it should be with an 'S' so it doesn't appear that you were in school when you had a 3.5. Don't be afraid to be bold and create your own format.Include any formal education you've received from colleges or universities that are relevant to the position you're applying for, including dates and names of your professors. Show how you became interested in the field, and what you studied. As with your work experience, it's okay to use old material, but always indicate how it was relevant. Do some research on the kind of experiences you have and incorporate them into your resume. Also, don't forget to include any hobbies and personal interests that you have included.Finally, if you've already submitted your resume to an employer, including dates of employment should be listed at the top of your resum e and covered in your cover letter. This will show the potential employer that you're currently employed and gives him/her the ability to go back and read the specifics of your work history if needed.
